Times have been tumbling amongst the regulars over the last year and not one bent panel in sight.

Drive at your own pace, learn more about yourself and your car in a day than any other day in the year.

Most importantly, do it in safe controlled environment with others trying to do the same thing . . . Hell if we can teach retired guys “the secret to going fast is going slow (around a race track)” we can even teach it to you.

Le Competition Le Track Days 2008
By Team Zoom

As the website has said for the past few months, Team Zoom has gone Crazy, Crazy, Crazy . . . now, we’ve gone completely bonkers and thrown in the steak knives, too!
The Club has booked a total of five (5) Track Days through the 2008 Calendar Year.
Four (4) of these days will be at Queensland Raceway (QR) and one (1) at Lakeside.

The dates are as follows:
April 24th                 Queensland Raceway
June 10th              Queensland Raceway
September 22nd     Queensland Raceway
October 16th         Lakeside
November 12th      Queensland Raceway
Please note these on your calendar now!!!

To add something to the format, this year we will run a points system for all participants that will culminate in a BBQ/Presentation at the final Track Day for the year, November 12th at Queensland Raceway.

The points system has been constructed to give ALL an even chance to win some great prizes, with those who make it along to all five (5) events rewarded for their support, and those who improve their performance during the year also benefitting with additional points.
We will run two (2) driver categories;  those who can get around the Clubman layout in fewer than 70 seconds and those who run above 70 seconds.  Obviously, anyone who starts in the second group will be moved into the first group if they improve to the point where they can consistently complete a lap in fewer than 70 seconds.  Cars will initially be placed in groups of 10-12 within each category.

The points system will see all participants receive 20 points for each and every Track Day which they attend.   So, by just being there on all five (5) days, you will have 100 points in the bag.

Then, for every second you improve after the first day you attend, you will be rewarded with an additional 5 points per second, up to a maximum of 3 seconds or 15 points.
Remember, the first day you attend will only attract attendance points.  No points will be awarded for improvements on your first day.  This applies to any day which is your first for the year . . . e.g.  If your first attendance day is September 22, you will only receive attendance points for that day.  Also, attendance at Lakeside will only garner attendance points.  There will be no option to earn bonus points for lap times at Lakeside.  Furthermore, Lakeside will only be open to MX-5 Club members participating in MX-5s.
Points for improvement must be gained in the same car.  If you run two different cars throughout the year, you will end up with two point totals which cannot be added together for the purpose of awards.

The Organising Committee reserve the right not to award points, or indeed, deduct points, from anybody deemed to be acting outside the spirit of the rules, and our standard protest clause applies throughout the year:  “All protests must be accompanied with a $100.00 cash non-refundable protest fee, at which time such protest will be dismissed without a fair hearing.”

Remember, this is all about members having fun and gaining valuable knowledge and working on improving their car control and driving skills.    This ultimately results in improvement in one’s driving standards, all accomplished in a safe, controlled environment.  You can go as fast or as slow as you like and still feature in the awards at the end of the year.

We will, once again, have sessions on the white board in the briefing room for all the new attendees and for those who have participated before and want to hear it all again.  We will also offer in-car coaching for all attendees, regardless of one’s level of experience/expertise.
You have all read in the Rag-Top Review what members have had to say about our Track Days . . . FUN, FUN, and more FUN . . . so, why not be part of it in 2008.  Organise those sick days now!!!

More details, including ‘Da Rulz’ will follow in the next Rag-Top Review (due out in early to mid-April), as well as on the Club website (www.miata.net.au).
